Want Peace? Stop Fighting!

By john dennison - Posted on 24 November 2009

You say you want peace. If you're serious, then quit fighting.

  • Quit fighting with others to get your way, or keep them from getting theirs.
  • Quit fighting with the political system and those who want to use it to move your country one way or another.
  • Quit fighting with your business, your job, your customers, your banker, or anyone else with whom you don't see eye-to-eye.
  • Quit fighting with your life over what it is or is not.
  • Quit fighting with God over whether you're good enough to have what you want, or whether you deserve love, money or anything else.
  • Most of all, quit fighting with your soul over why you're here and how you're going to go about your life.

Wait a minute, you say. You can't do that!

Well, why not? Are you at peace now? Is our world at peace?

The Golden Age I always heard about was to be a thousand years (or more) of peace and plenty. We haven't done a very good job creating it by fighting at every turn. Why should we think it will magically appear if we keep doing more of the same?

Besides, it doesn't mean rolling over and playing dead. You can still point out the things that don't work about the way things are, and illuminate the actions of those who would abuse you or others to get their way. And you can state your case for what you see and hold dear, and take steps to make it happen.

Just be aware that when conflict arises, it's offering you a choice for another way, a way of human relations that doesn't require bludgeoning each other into submission for things to work out.

Isn't that what you want? Isn't that what your God wants? If so, then when better than now to start?

In order to create a life of peace, first you must be clear on what it looks like and believe that you can have it. The second step is to create a space where it can begin to form, and then live as if you've already got it, or at least cannot be denied.

Start by being more at peace now with the life and world you've got. Try more peacefully saying what you need to say and doing what you choose to do. And when the gauntlet drops to offer you the chance to set aside your peace for another day, let it lie there. Don't pick it up.

Have faith that your actions will help that peaceful life and world to manifest, and that those who would turn it in the wrong direction will somehow be thwarted by the expanding consciousness spreading across our land.

Live your peace now. Turn away from the conflicts that arise in your life. Find another way. When you make that statement to God, he will reply by bringing more of that peace to the rest of your world as well.

So as with everything, it all starts with you. Do you really want peace? If so, then just lay down your weapons.

What do you have to lose?
