John's Legal Biography

Meet John DennisonLike the picture? That was me in the late 90's. Wow! Seems like so long ago. Anyway, I'm a lawyer. Or was. I'm retired now.

Nevertheless, by way of background, here's my legal bio for those who are interested:

I actively practiced law for over 30 years, and served as a trusted adviser to those looking to bring peace to their affairs.

I offered trusted guidance and general counsel on a wide range of issues affecting them, including but not limited to:

  • personal injury and wrongful death
  • commercial litigation
  • conflict resolution strategies;
  • contracts;
  • business and technology matters;
  • project development, troubleshooting and social impact;
  • estate planning, wills and trusts for business owners.

I often co-counseled client matters with a wide range of specialists to provide additional firepower and expertise in areas like patent and trademark, commercial litigation, personal injury, wrongful death, real estate, and more. And still do refer people to them when needed.

It doesn't matter the nature of your issue or size of your opponent. My job was -- and remains -- to get you the help you need, when and where you need it. That's what I did. And that's what I do.

So if you need a lawyer and can't find a good one to help, call me. I'll try to hook you up with someone who can.

Educational and Professional Background

I studied at the University of Salzburg in Salzburg, Austria, graduated cum laude in 1974 from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and graduated from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in Cleveland, Ohio in 1977.

Though retired, I am licensed to practice law in both Florida and Ohio, and am also admitted to practice in the U.S. Federal Courts for the Southern District of Florida and the Northern District of Ohio. I'm also a member of the Florida Bar Association (currently retired), and have been a member of various legal groups including the American Bar Association and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

I began my legal career in Ohio as a trial lawyer handling various types of criminal and civil litigation. In addition, my family's business brought me into extensive work in residential and commercial real estate, which in turn led me into more complex development, financing, and leasing transactions.

I also maintained an extensive trial practice in personal injury and wrongful death, real estate, construction and commercial litigation - usually amounting to over half my work load.

The rest of my practice concentrated on the personal and business affairs of entrepreneurs, professionals, and small business owners.

That included an active business and technology practice as I served various computer software and hardware clients, an expertise recognized when I was appointed to the Florida Bar Association's standing committee on Computer Law.

Moreover, to insure my clients were well-covered throughout all phases of their affairs, I developed an extensive trust and estate planning practice to insure continuity of business operations, provide for the needs of family, simplify postmortem affairs, and reduce the impact of the infirmities of age. I wrote the chapter on "Living Trusts and Pour-over Wills" for The Florida Estate Planning Guide, a treatise for lawyers published by Mathew-Bender, a division of Lexis-Nexis.

  • Associate Director and Legal Advisor to the South Florida Council of the National Association of Investors Corporation;
  • Legal correspondent for Into Tomorrow with Dave Graveline, a national network radio show focusing on high tech products and issues; and
  • Appointed to the Florida Bar Association's standing commttee on Computer Law, now merged into its Business Law Section.

In addition, I have been an active fund-raiser for many charitable organizations, including local chapters of the Leukemia Foundation and American Cancer Society, and organized the local chapter of the American Heart Association, and sat on the supervisory board (and later served as chairman of the board of directors) of the Chinese Medicine Institute.

Personal Activities

Last but certainly not least, I am a published poet and author, professional speaker, devoted father and husband, trustee, spiritual teacher and martial artist, and actively promote the restoration of civility and inner values in society.

Earlier activities, like being a concert clarinetist, member of the Junior Davis Cup Team (tennis), Little League baseball coach, and participation in Boy Scouts, were reluctantly set aside due to time constraints imposed by other commitments.

In addition to my legal and business practice, I share a vision of how mankind can build a better tomorrow by drawing upon the inner voice that connects each of us to our source of life, continuing a cause for better human relations I started at age 15 when I gave the Easter sunrise service to my Methodist Church. Now I show people how to use it to know themselves, where they are going, and address the obstacles that get in their way.
